CARLENE REED, AUTHOR
FAQ's

Questions people ask me.  If you have a question.  Ask!

How long does it take you to write a book?
It takes me different times.  I can do a short story in a day or two.  I work on several manuscripts at once so it's hard to pin down a time frame.

So if you work on several at once, is it hard to keep them straight?
Sometimes I get them confused.  So far, I haven't had any real problems with it.  I keep notes about the stories so I can remind myself who is who.  Currently, I am working on about six.

Do you get writer's block?
I don't get writer's block.  I have lots of ideas.  I get motivation block.  Some days I am not inspired and the muse just isn't with me.  Other days, I can't stop writing.  It's really weird.

How long have you been writing?
It's a funny thing.  When I was a teenager, I was constantly reading.  I was a bookworm.  One time I decided after reading a teen romance novel that I could do that.  I wrote about two pages before something else caught my attention.  Then in 2000, I was in a bad car accident.  Later that year, I went back to college.  My English instructor loved my writing and said I had talent.  He encouraged me to explore that as a career.  I picked it up again and have been doing it ever since.

Do you have a favorite genre?
No I don't.  I have written 2 children's picture books, a book of short stories, a young adult historical, and several others.  I love to read all different genres so I write in differents ones as well.  I like variety.

What was your first published piece?
One of the first stories I wrote, I sent to a website called The Writer's Life.  Dorothy Thompson, the editor, loved it and posted it on her site.  I was thrilled.  She was wonderful to me and encouraged me to continue writing.  Her and I are very good friends now.  So you can say it's all her fault!
